Dear Electronic Arts.
Why do you make me do the following each time I launch Fifa 12 and want to continue my season?
- Select English as my language
- Press start
- Select A so that I confirm Autosave to be okay (I have no other possibilities)
- Select career mode - and to move up twice to continue career instead of creating a new one or loading another career.
- Then I most of the time have to confirm all the unsaved progress might be lost.
What the hell EA - did you guys ever try to play a season yourself?

This is genuinely Microsoft’s idea of a “streamlined”, “optimized” UI for Windows Explorer. They were so proud of it they wrote a blog post about it.
The post is a sort of masterpiece of crazy rationalization, but I think my favourite part may be this screenshot:
Here, they proudly overlay the UI with data from their research into how often various commands are used. They use this to show that “the commands that make up 84% of what users do in Explorer are now in one tab”. But the more important thing is that the remaining 50% of the bar is taken up by buttons that nobody will ever use, ever, even according to Microsoft’s own research. And yet somehow they remain smack bang in the middle of the interface. The insanity is further enriched by this graph:
Again, this is Microsoft’s own research, cited in the same post: nobody — almost literally 0% of users — uses the menu bar, and only 10% of users use the command bar. Nearly everybody is using the context menu or hotkeys. So the solution, obviously, is to make both the menu bar and the command bar bigger and more prominent. Right?
Microsoft UI has officially entered the realm of self-parody.

Juuri näin, hyvää materiaalia.
Jonkin verran on puhetta Länsiväylän muuttamisesta kaduksi, mm.

I thought my recommended items from Google Reader would show up in Tumblr but it seems there’s some sort of mechanism that requires me to do some frequent logings / posts to the site itself so the feed could be live. Not cool.

Interesting article from Venture Beat. There are huge differences in how the startups grow depending on the way they’re founded and how everything is running for the first year.
I really hope that Mango is a good competitor for Android and iOS. I dig the snappy UI and there are definitely many interesting features. I still think W7 will either live or die with the application ecosystem so grab your popcorn and wait for the phones to be released by Nokia and other vendors…
Here’s a preview video (title says review but it’s from Microsoft so I’d not go there…) So: Windows Phone 7 Update 7.5 Mango Review (by AlxTiburon)

My treemap visualization of the most commonly used words in the latest iTunes TOS. The interesting stuff starts happening around the third or fourth level, in my opinion. I wanted to get a view of what Apple was really trying to say because (despite having to accept a new version of these terms almost monthly), I, like most people, have never read the text. Well, here it is in its essence. Enjoy!

Motivus Fitness Center has the possibility to pre-book seats from classes - like indoor cycling or bodypump. It seems their application (WebAikuri) doesn’t know anything about the classifications they’ve defined. That means I have to run the extra mile to remember if I actually have my monthly plan or 10x card set up the right way and I don’t have to pay any extra for the class I want to attend.
