Selah Sue performs tonight at Huvilateltta. I am pretty damn excited about it because I’ve been playing her self titled album repeatedly. There’s also Liz Green which is definitely a bonus. Helsinki Festival brings interesting artists to the town every year - thank you!

Samsung has released a full range of Windows 8 gadgets. It really seems like Nokia does not have any kind of advantage on that oh-so-close relationship with Microsoft, because they were not able to bring their W8 phones out first.

Bronzemurder is still friggin amazing story of one game of Dwarf Fortress. Too bad the game itself is so difficult I never got into it. Should I give it the third shot?
If you only had 49 hours to spend in San Francisco, what would you spend it doing? With so much great food, activities and sights to see, it may be hard to make a decision. But we’ve got you covered. We took a poll around the office and here’s what GOOD staffers love that can only be found in San Francisco.

Oh, I bet you think you know it all don’t you? You’ve seen the Odd Futures. You’ve watched Yonkers. You’ve had the argument about whether saying “fag” is OK or not (even though when Cartman said it in last week’s South Park you laughed, …

Everything Dibs has ever done is essential listening to those enjoying that good old antifolk vibe. Or just great vibes in general. That’s why I’m pointing you towards a journey that starts with his new album 5AM Awake in Bed.

The casting of a movie can be predictable and surprising, but sometimes it can be downright genius. Such is the case with Jack Black in the title role of Richard Linklater’s triumphant comedy Bernie. Black, who worked with Linkla…

But, alas, somebody ultimately noticed. The price peaked on April 18th, but on April 19th profnath’s price dropped to $106.23, and bordeebook soon followed suit to the predictable $106.23 * 1.27059 = $134.97. But Peter Lawrence can now comfortably boast that one of the biggest and most respected companies on Earth valued his great book at $23,698,655.93 (plus $3.99 shipping).

Kantakaupungissa asuva joukkoliikenteen käyttäjä taas näkee sen, kuinka tiiviissä kaupungissa liikkumistarpeet hoituvat kävelyn, pyöräilyn ja joukkoliikenteen yhdistelmällä - ja lähiöiden autoilijat tulevat tuhoamaan viihtyisän kaupunkiympäristön autoillaan.

Here’s What Happens To Google Employees When They Die
Meghan Casserly, forbes.com
It’s no surprise that the employee benefits of Google are among the best in the land—free haircuts, gourmet food, on-site doctors and high-tech “cleansing” toilets are among the most talked-about—but in a rare interview with Chief People…

Oh wow, 29C3 will be held in Hamburg! That means I’m going there in the end of 2012 if I’m not spending my holiday far away. Kudos, Hamburg is a wonderful city, too!
Dashan Coram was a musical inspiration and dear friend to many. He passed away this spring, and left behind a huge collection of music he wrote and recorded, but his Secret Salamander record “Shed Some Skin” was his last, beautiful, weird, incredible gift to us. We need to share it with you. Please take a look at the kickstarter and donate whatever you can!
Tom Warren on Office 2013 RT for Windows RT (which sounds as ridiculous as “C++ for You++”):
To optimize for Windows RT, Microsoft has made the decision to remove a number of features from its Office 2013 RT release to ensure battery life and reliability are not impacted on tablet devices.
Our design goal was clear: no compromises.
He’s technically making the argument as to why Microsoft decided to include the don’t-call-it-Metro component alongside the more traditional desktop component in Windows 8. But isn’t it a little odd that Microsoft is so adamant about “no compromises” (he goes on to say it four more times, with exclamation marks!) and yet, with WIndows RT, it seems to be all about compromises?
For good measure, Sinofsky further down:
Windows 8 brings together all the power and flexibility you have in your PC today with the ability to immerse yourself in a Metro style experience. You don’t have to compromise!
Right. Unless you buy a Surface or any of the other ARM-based tablets. Then you will have to compromise!
I continue to believe this is going to be a giant mindfuck of confusion for consumers.

I’ve made three games whose art style could be described as “pixel art”. What is typically meant by this is “graphics that exaggerate pixels”, with images built of “blocks” larger than the smallest points the display can show. “Big pixels”, right?
I’m often asked this question about those games:

Exclusively on http://tufte.com “This [film] is about patient and dedicated teaching, about learning to look and visualize in order to design, about the importance of drawing. It is one designer’s personal experience of issues that face all designers, expressed with sympathy and encouragement, and illustrated with examples of Inge [Druckrey]’s own work and that of grateful generations of her students. There are simple phrases that give insights into complex matters, for example that letterforms are ‘memories of motion.’ Above all, it is characteristic of Inge that in this examination of basic principles the word “beautiful” is used several times.” Matthew Carter, type designer, MacArthur Fellow “This film is absolutely beautiful. I’m so impressed with it and learned so much in such a compact piece. I feel like it picked up were Helvetica left off with the subtle principles of typographical balance and some early history stemming from the human hand. Your wonderful teaching approach comes through loud and clear and stands as an inspiration and model for others including myself. This is fantastic.” Luke Geissbuhler, Cinematographer of Helvetica and other films “A great documentation of the visual values we hold dear.” Roger Remington, Vignelli Distinguished Professor of Design, RIT “A fine, insightful and educational documentary. It captures Inge’s work as a designer and educator, her thinking and her SEEING, in a wonderful and most perfect way. Truly Inspirational!” Hans-Ulrich Allemann, Designer/Educator “A great story beautifully told.” Ken Carbone, Designer, Chief Creative Director, Carbone Smolan Agency
Reincarnated is a must-see documentary (or mocumentary?) of Snoop Dogg - or should I call him Snoop Lion these days? Anyway - Calvin Broadus is one amazing musician and now he’s collaborated with no other than Diplo for the whole album. Crazy!
Wood Wood is one of my favorite brands right now. Tony led the way to see their excellence and now I’m kind of hooked on their materials, cuts and playful color schemes. They’re nicely Scandinavian but they’ve got edge that I love. They’ve got sale going on and I got three sweaters for myself (two striped ones and one that’s multicolor madness) which are inspiring, and little something for Ako, too.
Three new levels of Angry Birds Space changed everything on the leaderboards. Before I used to be on ranked 1870th out of 6.3 million, but after three-starring those I’m now on place #427 out of ~6300000. Pretty cool, but I know my boy Thomas is coming right at me…
